The new MAXAM® barbells designed for professional home training are made of solid steel rods with a tensile strength of over 100,000 PSI (700 MPa), which allowed to achieve full capability of the 25mm diameter bar for a load of 150kg and a 30mm diameter bar for a load of 200kg. 

All barbells are available in three professional variants of the applied coating. Oxidation allows you to achieve the thinnest surface, thanks to which the grip feels like professional stainless steel olympic bar. This type of surface is chosen mainly by the most advanced users as a substitute for stainless steel barbells. This technique is also used on a large scale in the arms industry for coating weapons. Thanks to it, an aesthetic, black surface is obtained. Oxidation is not a painting, but a chemical change in the color of the steel surface.  

The technique that provides better protection of steel against rusting, while minimizing the thickness of the coating is black zinc coating. Barbells are subjected to hot dip galvanizing and then oxidation. Slightly thicker coating makes the grip not as natural as in oxidized bars, but they require incomparably less maintenance with identical aesthetic qualities. Thanks to the protective effect of zinc, this barbell is extremely resistant to mechanical damage. Thanks to its resistance, the zinc coating is particularly popular with crossfitters and bodybuilders who conduct aggressive and fast training. The great advantage of the black zinc coating as well as the usual oxidation is the ease of restoring it to the ideal state using the intended preparation.

The last option to finish the surface is chroming. MAXAM® barbells use the thinnest chrome finish available, thus ensuring the longest durability. Such a coating, however, is much thicker than oxidation or galvanizing, which is why the knurling is not as perfectly perceptible as with other types of coatings. The biggest advantage of such a coating is that the barbells practically do not require any maintenance. This makes chroming extremely popular, especially in the beginner and intermediate group. The mechanical strength of chromium is similar to galvanizing.  

Another important aspect when choosing the right barbell is knurling, which occurs in many different variants resulting from the use of different knots. The type of knurl, its clamping force and number of rotations must be perfectly matched to ensure the best quality of the knurl. The depth of knurling is also important. Too shallow negatively affects the grip, too deep can hurt your hands. MAXAM® barbells are characterized by standard knurling with an average and above average knurling depth, thus providing a golden mean and the greatest versatility.
